These were found in just over an hour the day after Storm Dennis on the beach by Brighton Marina. These balls of fishing line and ghost net have been broken down by the waves, and are only one step from defragmenting into plastic microfibres. Sea organisms like plankton can easily mistake these tiny plastics for food. In turn, many smaller animals and fish depend on plankton as their main food source.
